The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is the US government agency responsible for global development and humanitarian assistance. Created in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy, USAID worked in more than 100 countries to reduce poverty, promote democracy and provide disaster relief. With a budget of $40 billion in 2023, the Agency funded projects in various areas such as health, education and governance. However, in February 2025, the Trump administration suspended most foreign aid and closed USAID.
