There are dumbasses, real dumbasses, fake dumbasses, dirty dumbasses, poor dumbasses, little dumbasses, big dumbasses, fat dumbasses, dumb-ass-asses, too dumbasses, super dumbasses, young dumbasses and old dumbasses.
Some people are afraid of becoming old farts, and there is even a whole bunch of books explaining how to avoid becoming one. On the opposite, I have deliberately chosen to be one and I claim it. Such freedom! Such peace of mind! On the one hand, you disarm your interlocutors: if they call you an old fart, you immediately agree with them. It doesn't hurt you, it doesn't cause you any problems. On the other hand, you can say exactly what you think, without fear. Since you're an old prick, anything goes! It's this same martial arts technique that makes you follow your opponent's movements and use his strength to beat him. That is, if you want to beat him, of course. Because the corollary of this status of chosen old fart is a change of priorities: you no longer need to convince, only to express your thoughts in the fairest possible way. You don't necessarily want to have the last word, to drive the point home. Even if it happens to you from time to time, it is only a consequence of the conversation, not its purpose or yours.
No pressure
All the pressure, ego, what will people say, reputation, fear of backlash, all that disappears as soon as you accept your status as an old fool. It's magic! Old Fart has the right to interrupt you in the middle of a sentence, to contradict you, he has the right to think that things were better before, the right to get angry, to raise his voice, to scare the children, to leave the table with final sentences, to show the most perfect lack of good faith.
But bear in mind that an Old Fart also has advantages for those he talks to: he remains true to his beliefs and his friends, he doesn't betray anyone. Everything is on the table. An Old Fart is fundamentally sincere in his disgust, enmities and anger, as much as in his favourites, friendships and loves. When he loves, he opens all doors. He sometimes gets taken for a (dumb) fool, but on the whole he remains the winner. Accepting that you are a old fool is also taking that small risk.
Do not confuse
In short, “old fart” doesn't just mean “old fool”, it's much more than that. So, the next time you're about to call someone an old fart, ask yourself if he or she really deserves it.
Wesh Bro !
